Bio
Creation is the guiding passion of my life. Twenty years ago, I brought that passion to the arts, first to sculpture through the medium of polymer clay and then to portraiture through the medium of paint. The ideas and themes I explore in these mediums is very different butunderlying them both is an exploration of a moment, of a characteristic, of an essence distilled through form and color.
The West is the force that shapes and informs my art. In sculpture, I capture the natural part of the West—the radar ears of a hare, the lithe frame of a fox, the circumspect eyes of an owl. In paint, I capture the political figures of the Western world—the careful pose before a camera, the unguarded moment caught on film, the awkward face that becomes a meme. The West is the place where I enjoy the conveniences, comforts, culture, and frustrations of the city. The West is the place where I connect with nature and the little pieces of wild that still remain. The West is where I enjoy the benefits and privileges of living in America. The West is where I feel anger and abhorrence in equal measure with pride and hope for our politics.
